Sacred Writing

My Mother Once Told me . . .

Bonnie: A Korean surprise from her grandfather
Heather: My mother could only understand the world through God…she was right
Robin: People that tease others are insecure, she proved the theory through my pearl white frames
Sara: She said I am too sensitive to teach, I am not now.
Melanie: talked of her grandmother and age softening up the skin
Bart: had a teaching moment with a three year old
Marsha: Sisters are sisters forever. Love was always there.
Joe: I hope I never use the phrase “In my day, . . .”
Kim: Be what you want to be. Don’t settle.
Kathy: We are dear friends. I am beautiful and smart. She tells me all the time.
Peggy: I am from Porchment, Ohio and I know how to say Scioto.
Jennifer: God changed Jennifer and Jennifer changed her mother
Angela: If your belly gets wet, you will marry a drunk.
Mike: Should have been born a prince.
Ian: Her cooking has changed and she has a professional relationship with a dog.
Greg: don’t run around with the guy down the street, you will end up in jail.
Diane: Tone it down. I am LOUD. I exist LOUD.

We then discussed our Friday fieldtrip. We are going to the Huntington Galleries and need to make choices for our box lunches that will be provided by Marshall Services. Melanie explains you can have ham, turkey, roast beef and then a salad or fruit. She also discussed the possibility of us attending an outing at the Comedy Club next Friday, June 29, evening and think about it and we will discuss again.

Peggy’s Jammin Journals

Peggy discussed journaling.
Two purposes:
1. See the research to show you why you should journal
2. Here is research to back up your use of journaling.
Uses for journaling
• Memory making
• Professionals
• Foreign language
Reflective journaling- (west point guy)making connection between knowledge and application. Peggy gave multiple examples of uses in content area.
Double entry journaling-Anyone that has had Shirley knows she uses double entry journaling.
Example: Notes & Quotes [] Reflect & Respond Had class to do a reading and do a double entry journal.
Had people respond about reading and discussed.
Do you have to read them all? Peggy doesn’t read them all. They can put a sticky or note to ask that this one be read.
Peter Elbow (low-stakes and high-stakes writing) Comments don’t improve writing and Amy said her students always claim the comments do help their writing.
Warnings about journaling:
• Not a diary? Move into content area.
• Tell too much can strain students.
• Must be modeled.

Peggy had examples of her high school and first year of teaching journal. If you write a journal at school it is the property of the school.

After Peggy finished her demonstration, we broke into our groups and answered our questions. Group 1 did 2 and 5, group 2 did 3 and 5, group 3 did 4 and 5, and group five, the cool group did 1 and 5. Amy mentioned that some people wanted to keep this protocol for teaching demos.

Lunch was fixed by Momma Clay and included sandwiches and vegetable-beef soup. A good lunch was had by all.

Our afternoon writing group was time to look over our zero draft. I had several zero drafts while in college. A zero draft, for me, was the grade the professor put on my paper after turning in my final draft.

Third space (base)

Doug Triplett guided our afternoon technology session today. The topic is searching. We started at www.cmhsenglish.com his web site.

A couple of the links you can follow:
